                    Aristotle

the Famous Greek Thinker and Scientist

We have read many stories about navigators(航海家), pilots(飞行员) and astronauts(宇航员). Today, let's learn something about Aristotle - the famous Greek(希腊) thinker and scientist.

Aristotle was born in 394 B.C.(公元前) in northern Greek. His father was a physician(医师). But when he was still a little boy, both his parents died. At the age of 17, he went to Athens(雅典) to study at Plato's(柏拉图,古希腊哲学家) school. He worked hard to study philosophy(哲学) and science. He stayed there for 20 years, first as a student, later he became a lecture(讲师) and at last he was a scientist. In 342 B.C., Aristotle became Alexander's teacher. After Alexander became Alexander the Great(亚历山大大帝), in 335B.C., Aristotle returned to Athens and set up his own school. Twelve years later, when Alexander died, the Athenians wanted to kill him. Aristotle left Athens and died in 322.B.C.

As a scientist, Aristotle was famous for his theory that the earth was at the center of the universe(宇宙). It was composed of the four elements(元素): earth, water, air and fire.
